AA Step 2

Return to 12 Steps Menu

In step two we continue the theme we started in step one. That is: Step one is the problem, Step two is the solution, and in step three we are asked to choose between the problem and the solution. In step one we talked about the problem being self will run riot, and the solution was step two, which was God's will. I will put up the table again so we can be sure that we know where we are and what we are doing.

The big book tells us we either have to believe in the living of a selfish, self-centered life and that this is a great success (step one) or that we can see that others have a wonderful force guiding their lives and that they report this force to be "the God of their understanding." This is what the big book means when it says: "God either is, or He is not." It can't be both ways.
